NATIONAL RANKING: Delaware is ranked No. 4 in FCS by the Congrove Computer rankings. UD is ineligible for most polls; Richmond is No. 15 in FCS coaches’ poll.
    CAA: Delaware — 3-0; Richmond — 2-0.
SERIES: Delaware leads, 22-14, with Richmond winning three in a row.
LAST MEETING: Richmond won, 21-13, in 2022.
LAST WEEK: Delaware def. Maine, 44-21; Richmond beat North Carolina A&T, 20-17, on Oct. 5.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK: “When I had my knee injury, it was ‘OK, how am I going to get my knee extension back? How am I going to do this in a month?’ And then, the next month it would be, ‘How am I going to get my strength back to 60 percent? How am I going to get my strength back to 80 percent? How can I throw the ball and work on my game while my knee is injured?’ I don’t have focus on that big picture. ... I try to focus on one thing small at a time. I learned that from high school and junior college.” — QB Zach Marker on coming back from knee surgery.
ANOTHER QUOTE OF THE WEEK: “It’s pretty sad that we’re not going to play them any more. I know the Richmond-Delaware rivalry has been huge for a long time. A great program, tremendous tradition. Every time you go there it’s a great atmosphere. ... A lot of people won’t get to play Delaware any more — whether it’s William & Mary, Villanova, us. We’ll miss the series with them. It’s been fun. ... I hate that it’s the last time that we’ll play Delaware here at the University of Richmond. But times change.” — Richmond coach Russ Huesman on facing Delaware for the final time.
KEYS TO THE GAME: This is a series that Delaware once led, 12-2. But, since 1998, Richmond holds a 12-10 edge, winning six of the last eight meetings. The ‘22 loss was especially painful for the Blue Hens with the Spiders scoring nine points in the final four seconds. This will probably be Delaware’s last chance to even the score with Richmond. ... The Spiders have played two quarterbacks this season because of an injury. Sophomore Camden Coleman has been a bigger passing threat while junior Kyle Wickersham has been the more prolific runner. Whoever is at QB, the Hens will have to contend with Richmond running back Zach Parker-Smith, who put up 200 yards in the Spiders’ last game. ... Delaware is averaging 42.3 points and 468.5 yards per game. It has scored at least 42 points in five of its six games. The Hens’ offense has been pretty diverse, too, with 18 passing TDs and 15 on the ground. That kind of output puts pressure not only on opposing defenses but on opposing offenses, who have to try to keep pace.
NOTES: Delaware and Richmond are two of the five teams that are still unbeaten in CAA games. Two of the other undefeated squads, Rhode Island and New Hampshire, also play on Saturday. ... The Hens are one of only four FCS teams still unbeaten overall ... Kicker Nate Reed has 33 touchbacks on 46 kickoffs this season. He’s just four shy of the school record. ... Delaware is 16-0 in games when it wins in turnover margin under Carty. ... Road teams are 10-7 in CAA games so far. ... The Hens are trying to win seven games in a row for the first time since starting 7-0 in the 2020 spring season. ... Safety K.T. Seay has a team-high three INTs. ... Delaware has out-scored its opponents by a 131-41 margin in the second half. ... The Hens and Spiders first played in 1931 at UD’s old Frazer Field. ... Delaware hosts Albany next Saturday at 3 p.m. for Homecoming.
PREDICTIONS: Andy Walter, UD, 42-27; Tim Mastro, UD, 30-20; Glenn Frazer, UD, 31-27.
