One person is dead after a boat capsized near Baytown, Texas, sending five people into the water, officials said.

The U.S. Coast Guard was notified around 2 p.m. July 19 of a tugboat that capsized about a half-mile east of the Lynchburg Ferry Landing, according to a news release.

Five people were on board the boat, and they were all thrown into the water.

“Good Samaritans on a nearby vessel immediately responded and retrieved four persons,” the Coast Guard said.

The four people rescued were “transferred to EMS in stable condition,” and the rescue teams began to search for the fifth person by water and air.

“Rescue crews from the Coast Guard and partner agencies searched by air and sea for approximately 32 combined hours,” officials said.

On July 20, the missing boater was found dead.

“Our strongest thoughts and prayers go out to the family, loved ones, and all those involved in this tragic incident,” Capt. Keith M. Donohue said. “I also thank all our port and maritime partners for the tremendous cooperation and assistance rendered over these last two days.”

The boater’s name has not been released.

Baytown is about a 30-mile drive east from Houston.
