As we recover from the effects of Hurricane Beryl, the La Porte Police Department is reaching out to residents and reminding them to remain alert and do their homework in checking the references and reliability of both interior and exterior home improvement contractors before entering into any type of a work agreement.
International dish cooking series set for Aug. 7-28 in La Marque
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Galveston County will host a Cooking Well Exploring Cultures cooking series featuring international dishes in La Marque. Courses will be from 6-8 p.m. each Wednesday Aug. 7-Aug. 28 at the AgriLife Extension office in Galveston County, 4102-B Main St. The cost to register is $35 per course, and attendees should preregister at https://tx.ag/CookingWellInternationalFood.

HOUSTON (KIAH) – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is planning to install an additional 18 artificial roosts or “bat boxes” at the Walnut Creek Bridge along I-35 in Austin to offset the impact of construction on a pair of bridges that once offered cozy crevices to the Brazilian free-tailed bat – one of the 32 bat species found in Texas.
Man Fatally Stabbed in Northwest Houston Apartment, No Arrests as Investigation Continues
Tragedy struck in northwest Houston last weekend when a confrontation inside an apartment escalated to deadly violence, resulting in one man's death and a woman being hospitalized. According to the Houston Chronicle, the incident took place at around 10:48 p.m. on Saturday at an apartment located at 7740 W. Little York Road. Authorities have identified the victim as 35-year-old Dominique Richardson.
