LONG BEACH ISLAND REGION - Although the fluke bite in the ocean for the captains of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association has not yet started its summer action, there are other options keeping rods bent and fish coming over the rails.

The inshore artificial reefs are holding an assortment of fish. When you drop your offering to the bottom, you never know what might be next to bite.

Captain Max Goldman on the “Starfish” reports a day recently with 6 keeper black sea bass along with some ling. Another day saw a mackerel along with pollack and bluefish. He has also been running fun cruises for folks in the non-fishing hours.

Captain Brett Taylor of “Reel Reaction Sportfishing” reports running trips recently to target wreck fish. His clients are catching a few fluke, but ling and sea bass close to 20-inches were reeled in along with some surface triggerfish. They released several large porgies due to them being out of season. Captain Brett reports a slight increase in water temperatures which should improve the fluke bite.

Captain Dave Wittenborn on the “Benita J” ran a successful offshore trip for the Sullivan Party. The crew brought home six nice tuna and lost another boat side to a hungry shark. Captain Dave said it was a great group of guys who brought awesome food for the trip. He was happy to see the conditions and calm seas.

Captain Jonathan Kelly of “LBI Sportfishing” has been taking out anglers looking for something to do on LBI. He reports beautiful weather recently with a good mix of black sea bass and fluke.
