WASHINGTON – A portion of the Douglas Crossroads intersection in Beaufort County will be closed to traffic this weekend for continued improvements.

As part of the construction of the new roundabout, the eastern portion of U.S. 264 will be closed between 8 p.m. May 31 and 6 a.m. June 3. The closure will allow crews to install a large waterline and three drainage pipes.

Traffic on U.S. 264 traveling to and from Bath and Yeatesville will be detoured onto Braddy Road. Barricades, signs and message boards will be in place to help traffic. Drivers should anticipate a longer commute and be patient and alert when traveling near the construction.

The N.C. Department of Transportation is transforming the U.S. 264 and N.C. 32 intersection into a roundabout. The department builds roundabouts to improve safety and traffic flow. To watch a video and learn more about these types of intersections, visit this webpage .
