    UPDATE: Beaufort plane crash victims revealed to be in hospital, condition unknown

    BEAUFORT, N.C. (WNCT) – UPDATE (07/22/24): It was revealed on Monday morning that a single-engine Champion 7ECA is the plane that crashed near Beaufort.

    The Pilot was was 63 year old Charles Stanley Tippett Jr. from Warrenton, VA. Tippett was taken to the Carteret Health Care Hospital along with his passenger, 40 year old Culpepper, VA resident Russell Edward Dunkleberger.

    North Carolina State Highway Patrol secured the scene until the Federal Aviation Administration allowed the plane to be removed.

    (07/21/24): Emergency crews responded to a plane crash near Beaufort Sunday evening.

    Nick Wilson, Carteret County Public Information Officer, confirmed to WNCT the plane crash happened around 7:30pm in the area of Highway 101 and Merrell Farm Road.

    The Carteret County Emergency Services, Carteret County Sheriff’s Office, Beaufort Police Department, Beaufort Fire Department, Harkers Island Fire Department, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the scene.

    It is unclear whether anyone was hurt in the crash.
