BRIDGEWATER ― Fore those about to putt, we salute you.

Because the second annual Bridgewater Open, set for noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 31, raises money for Legacies Alive, a non-profit group supporting Gold Star families who lost a loved one in military service.

Eight Bridgewater taverns and a neighboring boating business all co-host the second annual miniature golf tournament. Participants will take turns at each site putting at custom-designed golf holes, like a mini-golf course spread throughout Bridgewater.

The businesses with their creatively shaped putting greens and mini-golf-style obstacles include Bigham Tavern, Frank G.'s Place, Boat World, the Grumpy Beaver, Kelly's Riverside Saloon, Mario's 410 Grille, Pier 19, Robert's Roadside Inn and The Standard.

Foursomes paying the $200 entrance fee will mark their scorecards and hope their putting skills win individual and team prizes. Register at any of the eight bars, by calling 724-728-0222 or emailing bwateropen@gmail.com.

There's free transportation between each golf hole.

Free hot dogs, commemorative T-shirts and Bridgewater Open golf balls, plus a swag cooler all go to participants. All proceeds benefit Legacies Alive.

This year's Bridgewater Open honorary chairman will be the Beaver Valley's resident rock star, Donnie Iris.

The official after-party takes place at the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department as a fundraiser for those local firefighters. The BVFD will build its own golf hole for a "mulligan" hole.
