CENTER TWP. ― Local nonprofits will begin to benefit from several successful fundraisers hosted by the United Way of Beaver County in recent weeks.

According to officials from the nonprofit organization, it raised over $90,000 from three popular fundraising options hosted in local communities from July 27 to Aug. 9. Organizers said the events, which included two golf outings and a purse bingo, have been a successful way to help build towards their annual fundraising goals.

"Every dollar raised during these events stays right here in Beaver County, directly supporting our local community," said Mary Lou Haju, executive director of the United Way of Beaver County. "The United Way of Beaver County allocates well over half a million dollars each year to nonprofit organizations that work tirelessly to serve our most vulnerable residents. With traditional workplace campaign donations declining, especially in the wake of the pandemic, it's crucial that we find new revenue streams."

On July 27, Styropeck and BASF hosted their annual golf outing at the Beaver Valley Golf Club to support the United Way of Beaver County. The fundraiser raised $22,681 for the group, with Styropek matching the donation, allowing the total earned to exceed $45,000.

“One of the core values of Styropek is being a responsible corporate citizen within the areas that we operate our facilities," said Tim Ford, manufacturing leader at Styropek. "We truly care about the wellbeing of the community and its citizens, and view our involvement in the 2024 golf outing as something that can benefit many residents within our community through the United Way of Beaver County. We greatly appreciate the support of many local businesses and their donations that helped to make the 2024 golf outing a success.”

On Aug. 4, over 200 attendees participated in the second annual UWBC Purse Bingo at the Monaca Turners. Range Resources, the presenting sponsor, led the event, which raised over $28,000. According to the United Way, this is double last year's total for the same event.

Another successful summer fundraiser was a golf outing hosted by the Beaver Valley Chapter of Credit Unions at the Rolling Acres Gold Course on Aug. 9. Organizers for this fundraiser shared that they raised $17,200 for the United Way.

"Without these funds, some of the essential services provided by these organizations could be reduced or even eliminated, which would have a significant negative impact on our community," Harju said. "Fundraisers like these are vital to the success of our Annual Campaign, and I am incredibly grateful for the unwavering support from our corporate partners and the individuals who participate in these events. Their generosity and collaboration truly embody the spirit of how we must Live United."
