Big Lots location in Hopewell Township named in recent wave of closures

HOPEWELL TWP. ― As another round of Big Lots closures was released earlier this week, a Beaver County location has been named a victim of the company's bankruptcy filings.

According to bankruptcy court filings submitted last week, the Big Lots Home location at Green Garden Plaza is one of 48 stores that will be forced to close due to the company's financial hardships. In addition to the store on Green Garden Road, other Pittsburgh area locations mentioned in the new round of closures include the store in Waynesburg, located at 110 Greene Plaza, and the retailer's location in Monroeville, located at 4047 William Penn Highway.

The location at the Green Garden Plaza had recently undergone renovations to become a Big Lots Home location, a test concept launched late last year that shifted the store's format to focus more on home goods. The Big Lots store in Hopewell Township was one of 10 stores nationwide to launch this new remodel late last year.

Early last month,The Times also reported on another filing that included the closure of Big Lots near Moon Township's University Square shopping center. After the announcement, the store has seen increasing discounts as it seeks to sell its remaining inventory. As of late September, several shelves remain empty, and fixtures have been made available for purchase.

Like other stores in the company's recent bankruptcy filings, an official closing date has not yet been announced for the Hopewell Big Lots locations. As of Tuesday evening, no signage indicates potential sales or pending closures at the location.

Beaver County shoppers can continue to visit the Big Lots location at 750 Ohio River Blvd. in East Rochester. It has remained off the closure list at this time.
