As television's holiday movie season approaches, we can expect Beaver County landmarks to get national TV time.

Let us know if you see any examples of this, by sending a screenshot and name of the show/movie using Beaver County scenery to stady@gannett.com or timesnews@timesonline.com.

It's often just a momentary glance.

But thanks to eagle-eyed readers, the Beaver County Times has chronicled 31 instances where Beaver County towns appeared in either TV movies or TV series' , portraying fictional places, or in some cases, cities elsewhere.

From Old Economy Village in a pre-filmed "Saturday Night Live" episode, to an aerial shot of Ambridge's Church Street (portraying Ypsilanti, Mich.) in History Channel's "The Foods That Built America"; and glimpses of downtown Beaver in CBS' "Ghost," ABC's "The Conners" and the Emmy-winning "Schitt's Creek," local scenery has popped up unexpectedly.

This particularly happens in Hallmark holiday movies, which have used the Beaver Clock Tower and New Brighton's downtown as examples of quaint small-town scenery in establishment shots.

Evidently, someone who has filmed Beaver County archive shots − often using a drone − has stockpiled video clips for use by TV networks and streaming sites, saving time and money for producers of such TV shows, who otherwise would need to travel here.

Of course, there also were times when TV crews actually brought the lights, camera, action to Beaver County for days-long shooting, like when Ambridge pretended to be fictional Buell, Pa., with Hollywood star Jeff Daniels hanging out in the former Ambridge police station, scene Showtime's "American Rust," and Netflix's acclaimed "Mindhunter" using that same police station building and Merchant Street storefronts to portray sites in Iowa and Georgia.
