DOYLESTOWN, Wis. -- A Beaver Dam man was arrested Monday afternoon after drugs were found in his vehicle following a cash, Columbia County Sheriff's officials said.

Officers and emergency personnel were called to the intersection of Highway 146 and Shady Lane in the Town of Fountain Prairie, northeast of Doylestown, at around 4:09 p.m. for a report of a vehicle crashing into a tree.

A 911 caller initially reported that the driver was slumped over the steering wheel and not moving. When Columbia County Sheriff's deputies arrived, the driver was conscious and semi-alert.

Officials said the driver, a 53-year-old Beaver Dam man, showed signs that he had been using illicit drugs. An OWI investigation allegedly confirmed he was intoxicated. A K9 unit was deployed and allegedly indicated there were drugs in the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered fentanyl, kratom and drug paraphernalia. The driver was arrested and faces charges of felony OWI-fourth offense, going armed while intoxicated, possession of drug paraphernalia, felony possession of a Schedule 2 narcotic, felony possession of a Schedule 1 narcotic and carrying a concealed weapon.

News 3 Now is not naming the driver at this time as part of a policy not to name people accused of crimes until they have been formally charged in court. Click here to learn more about the policy . He is currently being held in the Columbia County Jail.
