Mock Mariners-Orioles trade would give Seattle an unexpected solution at first base
We are in the midst of the most frustrating stretch of Mariners baseball we have seen in a while. This team is 100% reliant upon the starting pitching and barring a complete game shutout, they just can't win games. The offense isn't producing at all, and this has caused Dipoto to start to make some drastic moves, rightfully so. Ty France was designated for assignment on Monday and after a couple of injuries to Julio Rodriguez and JP Crawford, the team is now extremely reliant upon quite a few young, unproven hitters.

There Are No Easy Fixes for Declining Statehouse Coverage
Editor's Note: This article appears in Governing's Summer 2024 magazine. You can subscribe here. The destruction of the White House to make room for the expansion of legislative office buildings would certainly make news, if not trigger a constitutional crisis. In the other Washington, not so much. In Olympia, the White House and adjoining Blue House were the nicknames for 1920s-era buildings on the Capitol campus that housed the press corps. They fell into disrepair as the number of reporters registered to cover the Legislature full time fell from 30 in 1987 to only six today. It did not, in fact, make news when they were reduced to parking lots.

Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki, hitting .261/.332/.461 with 13 home runs this season, could provide a boost to the Mariners' lineup, offering a 123 wRC+ making him a valuable addition. Despite defensive concerns, Suzuki's strong offensive numbers and hitting abilities make him a desirable option for the Mariners.
