Luke Lemmens gets first win of season at Luxy Raceway
LUXEMBURG – Eighty-one cars graced the Luxy Raceway on a perfect Friday night for racing. Luke Lemmens netted his first win of the season, in dramatic fashion. While Cole Czarneski, Nick Wunrow, Brian Watzka Jr. each scored their second wins of the season at Luxy. With Coy Vlies cruising to his third feature win.
Presentation to address groundwater contamination
A retired water quality research engineer who has authored 55 published articles in scientific journals on the contamination and hazard to water resources in agricultural landscapes found in the Midwest will share his expertise on the topic in the area next Wednesday. The Door County Environmental Council is hosting "This Land is Their Land: Historical Perspectives on Cornbelt Water Quality" at the Kress Pavilion in Egg Harbor on July 31. The program features Chris Jones, who wrote "The Swine Republic, Struggles with Truth about Agriculture and Water Quality." Retired from the Hydroscience & Engineering School at the University of Iowa, Dr. Jones says Door County and Iowa share the same challenges and health concerns regarding improving groundwater quality. He says we need regulation of production agriculture with increased concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs).

Bays rout Cubs on 105.1 The GOAT
The Sister Bay Bays scored eight runs in the first three innings en route to a 12-2, eight-inning win over the Institute Cubs Friday night. The Bays jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Matt Hecht knocked in two runs on a single. The Cubs would get one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning when Robbie Pollman grounded into a double play, forcing the Bays to trade two outs for a run scored by Brent Haberli. Haberli would struggle in the next inning, allowing two hits and three walks in a three-run second inning that saw Alex Laughlin, Tom Sawyer, and Spencer Krause drive in runs.
