New River CTC’s ‘Be Your Own Boss’ camp welcomes 8th, 9th grade students

BEAVER, WV (LOOTPRESS) – New River Community and Technical College recently hosted its “Be Your Own Boss” camp in collaboration with GEAR UP SWV.

Held at the Raleigh County New River CTC campus, the innovative camp gave dozens of students from Monroe, Raleigh, Mercer, Wyoming, and Summers Counties the chance to build their own fashion brands.

The “Be Your Own Boss” camp was designed for 8th and 9th grade students and guided students through the process of designing their own apparel. Students left camp with up to five custom products which included hoodies, tees, and backpacks which displayed their designs.

“We are thrilled with the enthusiastic response and creativity displayed by the students,” said GEAR UP Coordinator and Community Outreach for CTC, Tammy Mills. “This camp not only taught them valuable skills in brand creation and design, but also empowered them to become future entrepreneurs.”

It has also been announced that a Product Reveal event will be held at the Raleigh County campus of New River Community and Technical College where students will showcase their apparel and their hard work and efforts will be celebrated. Families, parents, and community members have been invited to attend the showcase, which is set to take place at 6:00pm on July 30, 2024, at the NRCTC Raleigh County campus located at 280 University Drive.
