    Beaverton extends cooling shelter operations through Monday as high temperatures remain

    With high heat continuing in the forecast, Beaverton is extended its cooling center operations at least through Monday, July 8.

    The Beaverton City Library (12375 S.W. Fifth St.) and the Murray Scholls Branch (11200 S.W. Murray Scholls Place, Suite 102) will remain open the public during normal hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the main branch; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Murray Scholls (closed Sunday and Monday).

    The main library will also extend its lobby hours, from 6-9 p.m., Friday through Monday. The city says it may continue to extend the cooling shelter as the temperature forecast is updated.

    These cooling locations are free to access. Internet, outlets, water and restrooms will be available.

    The Beaverton temporary shelter at 12350 S.W. Fifth St. also has been activated, and will not turn anyone away starting at noon Friday, July 5. That shelter is open 24 hours, and meals are provided.

    Meanwhile, the splash pad the the Beaverton City Park Fountain remains open and operational from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, through October.

    In east Washington County, the Washington Street Conference Center at 102 S.W. Washington St. in Hillsboro is set to remain open through Monday, July 8.

    The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the Portland metro area through 8 p.m. Monday, July 8.
