Summer days starting to feel a little long? Shake things up and cool down at Beaverton’s new playground.

Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District will host a grand opening for La Raíz Park from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at 6595 S.W. Lombard Ave., according to a press release from the organization.

The 2-acre park is located in the Vose neighborhood and was previously a residence for more than 80 years. Construction on the park began in 2023.

Park visitors will find a water play feature, a multipurpose sports court, two covered picnic areas, paved and soft-surface paths, playground areas and fields surrounded by trees and other flora.

La Raíz, pronounced rah-ees, means “the root” in Spanish. The name was chosen to honor the Spanish-speaking communities THPRD serves, according to the release.

“The name represents the site’s large trees that live in interdependent relationships through connected roots,” the release stated. “Like spreading tree roots, the unique paths and experiences that have led people to this land continue to shape the community we live in today as we grow toward the future.”

The grand opening event is free and will include family friendly activities and entertainment. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner, and small treats will also be handed out.
