Celebrating Life in Form of Concert, Arthel Lane "Doc" Watson

CONCERT PRESENTATION HONORING AND CELEBRATING LIFE:

Saturday, August 19th, 2023, at 7 P.M., the Music Center will host a special concert presentation honoring and celebrating the life, and music legacy influence of the late, great North Carolina Folk musician, Arthel Lane "Doc" Watson on the year of his 100th birthday.

The "Doc at 100" concert will feature a couple bandmates of Doc, including T. Micheal Coleman and Jack Lawrence, plus a longtime best friend and fellow acoustic guitar picker, Jack Hinshelwood with Wayne Henderson.

Wayne, a guitarist, music and instrument legend is one of Southwest Virginia's and Southern Appalachian's musical luminaries. He is a legendary finger-picker on the guitar and a world-renown instrument maker, making some of the greatest guitars the word has ever seen.

Henderson, the Grayson County Virginia Tourism native, built guitars for many notable musicians including Tommy Emmanuel, Doc Watson, Ricky Skaggs, Gillian Welch, Peter Rowan, Vince Gill and many others. The book "Clapton's Guitar: Watching Wayne Henderson Build the Perfect Instrument" (2005) outlined the process by which Henderson built a guitar for Eric Clapton. In 2008, he was the subject of an Appalshop documentary, From Wood to Singing Guitar.
