Quirky North Carolina: Chuckling at the Unusual Town Names

    North Carolina:

North Carolina is known for a number of quirky and slightly unusual town names. Some of them are a bit commical and left a mystery how how they came to play.

    1. Boogertown: Located in Gaston County, the name is just as fun as it sounds. No true origion of the towns name exists. Though I can promise it's not due to a town full of booger pickers or is it? This is just one of the memorable names you'll come across in N.C..
    2. Hell's Kitchen: Situated in Durhan County, this town's name might make one think of the infamous New York city neighborhoos, or Chef Ramsey himself, but it's a much quieter and more rural place in North Carolina. No one running around calling you, "an idiot sandwhich and or a donkey" either, I promise!"an idiot sandwhich and or a donkey" either, I promise!
    3. Pope's Creek: In this small town in Washington County, the name may bring to mind images of a scenic, tranquil place. It's a unique name that stands out on a map and may bring a reminded of religion to a few. Not as commical as the others, but memorable for sure!
    4. Efland: A name that may sound like a cuss word, but really is just a town nesstled in Orange County. Just a small community, with a name that feels like it should be from the Lord of the Rings trillogy and or a sailors cuss book. Efland, did get its name from a popular 19th century novel. Specifically its believed taht the name came from the fictional land of "Efland" in the novel "Efland: A Story for Boys" by the author Mary F. K. Butler.

The names in the end are just a few towns that make you chuckle while passing through while showing a bit of charm and wit in the state's diverse landscapes. Some towns we may never know the truth behind as time continuously passes. We can take a moment to enjoy what each little place has to offer, even it be just the name.

What are some of your favorite North Carolina town names?
