Tragedy Strikes on Highway 301 as Single-Vehicle Accident Occurs
A distressing single-vehicle accident occurred on Route 301's underpass near Exit 24 of 587 in Wilson on January 11, 2024, at around 9:20 p.m. The incident, involving a single vehicle flipping upside down and sustaining severe front-end damage, left one person pinned inside.
Rocky Mount Officers Receive Medal of Valor
Officers from the Rocky Mount Police Department were awarded the Medal of Valor for their exceptional bravery. Sgt. Cameron Joyner and Cpl. Vicky Hussey caught up with a suspect in a stolen vehicle during a call for a stolen vehicle, where the suspect had fired on Sgt. Joyner, damaging his firearm. Cpl. Hussey returned fire and stopped the threat.
Onslow Quarry Donates Money and Stuffed Animals to Sheriff's Office
On January 09, 2023, Martin Marietta, of the Onslow Quarry, donated $1,000.00 and five full boxes of stuffed animals to the Sheriff's Office. The $1,000.00 is to be used for a soon-to-be-implemented Project Lifesaver Program. Where the stuffed animals will be given to children who may be in a sticky situation, or in need of a smile put on their faces.
Mayor Creech on Wilson County Sheriff's Office for Lucama, NC
The Mayor released a post on his Facebook page stating some facts behind the Wilson County Sheriff's Office not resigning with Lucama, NC. As many of you know, the Wilson Daily Times today ran a story to which stated the Sheriff’s Office does not intend to renew our contracts this year for Sheriff’s Office coverage. Unfortunately, this is correct. However, there are some mitigating circumstances that are completely incorrect that certain individuals are now commenting on. In regard to this story, I feel it is my duty to you, the public, to explain what is going on. To understand this, all of what I am about to say IS PUBLIC RECORD, stated in contracts, the 21/22 budget, correspondence between Miss Newsome and the Sheriff’s Office, and the Board Meeting Minutes in August 2023. Any of these documents can be obtained at your request at the town office.

Sunday, January 07, 2024, Officers from the Kinston Police Department received a tip from a concerned citizen in the area in reference to the location of Matthew Whyche. A 34-year-old man wanted for Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon. He was considered armed and dangerous.

Warrants have been obtained for, suspect Matthew Wyche, 34, of Kinston, for Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon. Wyche is to be considered armed and dangerous. A missing person has been posted by the Camden County Sheriff's Office, Nancy Lynn Wilson, who went missing Friday, January 05, 2024. Nancy Lynn Wilson is a 56-year-old, white female, who is approximately 5'5'' and weighs 235 pounds. She was last seen leaving Bartlett Road in the Camden/Shawboro area. She left the location on foot, on Friday, January 05, 2024, at approximately 11 a.m.

Unlawful Firearm Possession: NC Man Arrested
Detectives with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office Gang and Gun Crimes Unit recently began an investigation, in which they determined that 37-year-old James Henry Andrews Jr. of Greenville, North Carolina had recently pawned a firearm to a Pitt County pawn shop on December 11, 2023. It was further determined that Andrews is currently a convicted felon on parole in North Carolina. This makes it illegal for him to possess such a firearm.
Man Arrested for Firearm Theft While Family Slumbered in Home
On January 03, 2024, Major B. Turner released an immediate statement that included information on a burglary that occurred Monday, January 01, 2024. Officers of the Kinston Police Department responded to a call for burglary to a home on the 1500 block of Hwy 258 N. Kinston, North Carolina. The homeowner advised that the suspects entered the residence while the occupants were asleep. Several items were reported stolen.
Two Juveniles Caught in Rocky Mount Vehicle Theft
Around 10:35 p.m. December 30, 2023, Rocky Mount Police Department responded to a call on the 200 block of Thunder Road, in reference to a stolen motor vehicle. During the investigation, officers were able to locate the stolen vehicle near the intersections of Sunset Avenue and Sunshine Drive, Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
Blue Alert: Greensboro Police Officer Shot, Killed, Two Suspects on the Run
Greensboro, North Carolina Police Department has issued a “Blue Alert” at this time due to a watch commander officer being shot and killed Saturday evening in Greensboro. Police state the shooting happened at the Sheetz located on the 3200 block of Sandy Ridge Rd, Greensboro, N.C.
