CAST to host open auditions for 'The Miser'
CLEARFIELD — Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre, Inc. seeks talented actors age 18+ to fill the various roles in their upcoming comedic play ‘The Miser.’ Auditions will be held July 28 and 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. Those auditioning will read from the script and participate in various exercises. The cast calls for two sets of young lovers, three scheming servants, other moneylenders, a nobleman and two justices. There could be doubling of some characters. This production is directed by Gayle Gearhart. Performances are Sept. 5-7 and Sept. 12-14 at 7:30 p.m. Those who are auditioning are expected to be at all performances and attend as many rehearsals as possible.

CRESSON – Mount Aloysius College is launching a hybrid certificate pathway for individuals who have a bachelor’s degree and are looking for a streamlined path to become a teacher starting in fall 2024. In this new accelerated certificate program, students will use their degrees in English, biology, history, or political science and become certified to teach those topics to grades 7-12 in just four semesters.

It was a lost weekend for the Altoona Curve, which lost all three games to Somerset despite three strong pitching performances. The Curve lost 2-0 on Friday, 2-1 on Saturday in a game in which Thoams Harrington struck out ten, and 3-2 yesterday. Hunter Barco made his Double-A debut and threw three scoreless one-hit innings, striking out five. Bubba Chandler returned from the inactive list and took the loss, giving up all three runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts in five innings.
Superintendent: DASD free lunch program off to a great start
DuBOIS — The free summer lunch program is off to a great start, according to DuBois Area School District Superintendent Wendy Benton. After the first three days, Benton said the DuBois Area Middle School served 832 lunches, Treasure Lake, 300 lunches, and 69 lunches at C.G. Johnson Elementary in Reynoldsville.

Terry Scott Goss, 60, of Tipton, died Monday, July 22, 2024 at his residence with his family. He was born July 13, 1964 in Altoona, a son of the late Theodore Cecil and Patricia Lucille (Welch) Goss. He was married July 18, 2024 to Tamra L. (Mussleman) Bergey. He is survived by his wife, Tamra, of Tipton, and a daughter, Patricia Rowell (Chris), of North Carolina; two granddaughters; and a step-daughter, Kaitlynne Bergey. There are several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his siblings: Greg Goss, Debra Darnell (Gordon), and Penny Adams (Jesse).
