Severe thunderstorms that at times showed rotation on radar crossed parts of Marion County Monday night causing power outages, downed tree limbs, as well as removing about half the roof of the Pour House at Selmaville Road and West Main Street. The Salem Fire Protection District believes a lightning strike started a fire in the garage of the Jim Dice home at 1435 North College.
Patoka Trap Shooting Team Competing At Aim Grand Championships In Sparta
The Aim Grand Championship high school trap shooting competition is in Sparta with several area teams competing including the Patoka Trap Shooting Team. Monday, Lemmy Kuhn hit his first 25 straight during practice. Hunter Hyde hit his 1st 25 straight during day 1 of competition. Haley Hassebrock broke 50 straight during the opening day.

Strange Earthquake Just Hit this O’Fallon, Illinois Neighborhood
When it comes to New Madrid Fault earthquakes, I think I've now seen it all. There was just a tremor that shook a neighborhood in O'Fallon, Illinois Saturday morning. I had to do a double-take when I saw this earthquake appear on the USGS earthquake map this morning. It was a 2.4 magnitude quake in a subdivision in O'Fallon, Illinois and it's been confirmed by a USGS seismologist. It was centered here.

Collinsville Gators’ Sophie Van Middendorp Shines at SWISA Championship Meet
EDWARDSVILLE – Sophie Van Middendorp enjoyed a successful meet at the Southwestern Illinois Swimming Association’s 62nd annual championship meet July 21, 2024, at the Chuck Fruit Aquatic Center at Edwardsville High School, finishing second in the girls 15-18 100-yard backstroke at 1:12.38, finished third in the 50-yard butterfly at 35.06 seconds, and also was a part of two winning relay teams, the 200-yard freestyle relay, having a time of 1:55.42, and the 200-yard medley relay team, coming in at 2:12.26. She also finished third in the 50-yard freestyle at 30.05 seconds.
