BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — The Salvation Army in Beckley welcomed more than 60 kids to summer camp on Monday, June 10, 2024, the first class of campers at the Salvation Army’s new headquarters.

The Boys and Girls Club was in full swing at the Robert C. Byrd Drive facility, which offers a gymnasium and classrooms.

The camp director, Emma Harvey, said the camp had a space theme, which the campers seemed to love.

Harvey said campers get lessons on faith. They also make new friends and have access to physical activities and the arts and are given a room to rest, called The Zen Den.

Raleigh County Commission President Dave Tolliver remembered

Harvey said she was excited for campers to experience The Boys and Girls Club.

“This is just the coolest place,” she said of the new headquarters. “Everybody’s going to love it. They already do, and the kids here are wonderful, and I’m just so glad we’re here.”
