BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Workers and visitors at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine spent West Virginia day celebrating the Mountain State with tons of activities everyone could enjoy!

The oldest river in North America flows through West Virginia

With discounted tickets for mine tours, cupcakes, and West Virginia vendors, the Coal Mine was packed with people.

Michael Galloway came all the way from Dover, Arkansas to take the mine tour. He said this is his second time visiting the Mountain State.

“We fell in love with the state and we wanted to see other parts of it, so we decided to come here this summer. We knew that we wanted to go to the coal mine and looked up information on it and we’re here.” said Galloway.

Galloway feels a special connection with the mine as his grandfather was a miner killed on the job back in Arkansas.

He said that it was pure coincidence that he and his wife visited on West Virginia Day, but that they’ll continue to visit the state as often as they can.
