Woman abandons dog in KFC parking lot in Beckley

BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A woman is facing animal cruelty charges after abandoning her dog at the KFC parking lot.

On February 17, 2024, Beckley Police saw a dog at the KFC parking lot and went to check on its condition. The dog appeared limping, and Virginia Lucas claimed she had found the dog and was caring for it. Lucas mentioned she planned to take the dog to the vet on Monday.

Police also spoke to a KFC employee about the dog. The next day, February 18, 2024, Police received a report about the same dog. The caller stated that the same woman had brought the dog back to KFC and left it in a black car, abandoning it without returning it.

Upon arrival, Police found the dog in the KFC parking lot. Two women at KFC took the dog and mentioned that they would keep it. Police obtained statements from employees who witnessed the incident and will be attempting to get video footage of the incident on a flash drive.

Due to Lucas abandoning the dog and failing to provide necessary medical treatment for its broken leg, Officers will be obtaining warrants for animal cruelty. This incident took place in Beckley, Raleigh County , West Virginia.
