BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — With temperatures this week predicted to be in the 80s and possibly even reaching 90 degrees, everyone across the state needs to hydrate.

Nearly 3/5 of West Virginia in moderate drought

Drinking water is the best way to stave off dehydration before you reach a critical stage.
Paul Seamann, Director of Operations for Jan-Care Ambulance, said hydration is what keeps you going.

“Hydration is absolutely critical for the human body to function. And particularly when you’re sweating and losing a lot of that heat, then you could get into serious conditions such as heat exhaustion and then even a heat stroke, where your body is no longer able to sweat. The most important thing to understand about hydration is it’s all about water,” said Seamann.

Seamann said you need to be drinking constantly throughout the day.

If you are already very thirsty before you take your first drink, you are already putting yourself at risk for dehydration and heat exhaustion.

In the worst cases, where emergency services are called, you will be hooked up to a saline IV in order to provide you with direct hydration.
