BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – Fridays in the Park took over Jim Word Memorial Park with two gospel music artists on Friday, July 12, 2024.

There were tents for businesses, food vendors, and fun games set up to enjoy the beautiful day at the park from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The artists were Mia Bailey and Rick Lilly, both of whom are gospel singers.

Bailey told 59News why Fridays in the Park is a good opportunity for local artists like her.

“Fridays in the Park is such an amazing opportunity for people that sing like me to have an opportunity in Beckley. I am a gospel singer, so I’ve never wanted to sing in bars or places like that, so this is an amazing opportunity for me to sing to a crowd that is more for me,” said Bailey.

Bailey also played two sets. In the first, she performed more popular songs like “Jolene” by Dolly Parton and “Tennessee Orange” by Megan Moroney, among others. In the second set, she performed gospel songs.

Fridays in the Park continues throughout the summer at the same location with different singers each week.
