BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – College Basketball Hall of Fame Coach Bob Huggins, alongside representatives from Little General Stores, presented a $100,000 check to the staff at the CAMC Cancer Center in Beckley on Friday, July 12.

The funds were raised during the annual “Evening with Bob Huggins” fundraiser, held at the Fairchild Motor Company showroom in Beaver and presented by Little General Stores in October 2023.

“Giving back to our community has always been incredibly important to the Little General Stores family,” said Greg Darby, President of Little General Stores, Inc.

“By raising funds to support a cancer center here in Beckley for Vandalia Health, we hope to make the lives of cancer patients and their families a little easier – they can get their treatment here in Beckley and stay closer to home.”

The donation will benefit the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Endowment Fund, established by Coach Huggins in his mother’s name to support cancer care and research across West Virginia.

Huggins has directed these funds to Vandalia Health, which provides cancer care services throughout the state.

CAMC Cancer Center, accredited since 1956, offers the highest trained, nationally certified healthcare professionals in the region.

“CAMC has cared for cancer patients for more than 75 years,” said Glenn Crotty, Jr, MD, CAMCHS President and CEO and Executive Vice President of Vandalia Health. “We are proud to be the largest and busiest cancer center in the state.”

Vandalia Health, created by Mon Health System and Charleston Area Medical Center in 2022 and joined by Davis Health System in December 2023, operates cancer centers in Beckley, Charleston, Elkins, Hurricane, Kingwood, Morgantown, and Weston.

According to recent data, there are over 35,500 patient encounters at the CAMC Cancer Center and over 10,500 at Mon Health System annually.
