Raleigh County Family Support Center, United Way to unveil ‘Dog Man’ Little Free Library

BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – United Way of Southern West Virginia is teaming with the Raleigh County Family Support Center to bring a “Dog Man” Little Free Library to the RCFSC’s Antiono Avenue location in Beckley.

One of only fifty granted throughout the nation, the Little Free Library will expand book access to Raleigh County youth as part of the “Power Up with Reading” Scholastic and Little Free Library initiative.

Named for the beloved “Dog Man” book series by worldwide best-selling author Dav Pilkey, the library will come stocked with books for young readers donated by Pilkey. The library itself is a small, wooden structure which displays books available for borrowing. The Little Free Library will be made available at no cost and will require no sign up or card. There will be no limit on how long books are borrowed and the library will operate on the honor system.

“We are excited for this location of the Little Free Library. This neighborhood has children who will benefit from this location being within walking distance of their homes,” said Raleigh County Family Support Center Executive Director, Kellie Gunnoe. “We love the opportunity for them to expand their imaginations through reading. Many families must prioritize destinations when transportation is available and having this little free library in their back yard will be a blessing. Our Board of Directors was excited to learn United Way has partnered with us for this project and they are champions for the success of this opportunity!”

United Way of Southern West Virginia Executive Director, Trena Decal says of the addition, “United Way is excited and honored to receive this library. We are thrilled to partner with Raleigh County Family Support Center to host the library box and provide reading material to the children they serve.

An unveiling ceremony for the Little Free Library will be held on Tuesday morning at the Raleigh County Family Support Center’s Transformation Center location at 200 Antonio Avenue, Beckley WV.
