BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – West Virginia University President Elwood Gordon Gee finished up his Summer tour. He stopped by Fruits of Labor in Beckley to honor two Raleigh County Recipients of the WVU Foundation Scholars.

Ama Ackon-Annan from Woodrow Wilson High School and Zadie Worley from Liberty High School will be joining the WVU family in the fall! This scholarship is the highest prestige for up and coming freshman.

Both girls say they are proud to be the first two Raleigh County representatives.

“I think that definitely with Zadie and I being from Raleigh County and 2 of the five recipients being from here it’s really great. I’m just proud to be here,” said Ackon-Annan.

“Coming from a small school from Raleigh County I feel like we don’t get as much recognition, I’m happy to just put us on the map a little bit more,” said Worley.

The students brought their families to the luncheon provided by the folks at Fruits of Labor. Classes start back at WVU on August 19th.
