BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Beckley Sanitary Board has announced the latest details regarding the upcoming planned closure of Pinewood Drive in Maxwell Hill.

Originally scheduled to begin on July 29, 2024, the closure was postponed as a result of unforeseen delays with regard to the contractor involved with the project.

The project in question will entail an emergency replacement of the storm sewer which sits ten feet below the roadway. The roadway itself is an oft-utilized residential roadway which allows motorists to commute between Harper Road and the shopping center area in North Beckley.

The recently announced updated Pinewood Drive road closing schedule indicates that closure of the roadway will begin on Monday, August 12, 2024, and will continue until August 16, 2024.

During this period the Pinewood Drive roadway will be inaccessible to all through traffic between the Teel Road and Maxwell Hill Road intersections.

The Beckley Sanitary Board has noted that local residents within the area of closure will still have access to their properties but may have to utilize alternate routes at times due to potential temporary disruptions.

With regard to detours during the shutdown period, it has been indicated that traffic will be rerouted by way of Teel Road and Maxwell Hill, with detour signs expected to be displayed prominently throughout the area during the project. It has been requested that motorists abide by the postage signage and speed limits, and that travel times and routes be planned for accordingly.

“The Beckley Sanitary Board and City of Beckley regret any inconvenience caused by the road closure and appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as we make infrastructure improvements,” said the Beckley Sanitary Board in a statement. “We are committed to working with our contractor to complete this work as efficiently and safely as possible.”

Additional information regarding the project can be found at the Beckley Sanitary Board website .
