    Rabid bat confirmed in Raleigh County

    RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Beckley-Raleigh County Health Department has issued a public health alert for the Bolt area of Raleigh County after a bat tested positive for rabies.

    The West Virginia Office of Laboratory Services informed the department of the positive test result on August 6, 2024.

    Residents are advised to vaccinate their pets and livestock against rabies and to avoid contact with wildlife.

    The health department emphasizes the importance of not feeding, housing, or handling stray animals or bats.
