BEDFORD, N.Y. - This week will see the debut of feature filmmaker and Fox Lane High School Tingley Scholarship winner Sam Griff when “The Woodpile” comes to The Bedford Playhouse on Tuesday, July 23.
The film explores the history of the Wood Family of Croton Lake Road, the homes known as “the Woodpile,” and the stories of the current homeowners. It demonstrates how each family updated their home for modern living while restoring and preserving pieces of Bedford’s history.
The film features Bedford Town Historian John Stockbridge, Wood family historian Elin Peterson, and the current owners of four of the significant Woodpile homes on Croton Lake Road.
Filmmaker and neighbor Sam Griff explains why the project is important to him as a student and as a member of the next generation of stewards of Bedford’s history.
“It is an honor to debut the film at my hometown theater,” said Griff. He hopes to catch the eye of a wider group of producers, directors, and media personnel. Sam will head to Lafayette College to pursue Film and Media Studies in the Fall.
The debut will be marked by the presence of a number of local supporters from the Bedford Historical Society, Bedford Central School District, and Town of Bedford which will give a great launch to the documentary.
