Motorcycle rider dies after crash on Edens Expy. near Skokie, Illinois State Police say
A motorcycle rider died after a fiery crash on the Edens Expressway in the north suburbs, Illinois State Police said.ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watchThe crash happened around 8:16 p.m. on Saturday on the southbound lanes of I-94 at Lake Avenue near Skokie.The rider of a Suzuki motorcycle crashed into a Toyota Prius while crossing onto the ramp, according to police.After the crash, the motorcycle caught fire. The rider was rushed to the hospital where they later died.Video shows the bike and pieces of metal scattered across the road.Traffic was diverted off the expressway to Skokie Avenue up until 12:25 a.m. when all lanes were reopened, ISP said.No information was immediately available about the rider who died. It is unknown if the driver of Prius had any injuries.

Riverside postpones Star Buds property purchase
Riverside has postponed the purchase of village property by Star Buds on which the company plans to build a new dispensary. At the village board’s July 18 meeting, Riverside trustees approved an ordinance amending the closing date to Dec. 31 of a contract between the village and Star Buds for the purchase of village property at 3320 S. Harlem Ave. and 363-369 E. Burlington Street. The amendment allows the board to extend the contract for another six months until June 30, 2025, if Star Buds does not close on the property by the board’s final meeting of the year.

Christiana Powell, a 63-year-old Woodlawn homeowner who was foreclosed on in 2022, is camping out on her lawn in a last-ditch effort to keep her family’s longtime home. After years of fighting the foreclosure in the chancery, appellate and federal courts, Powell received a final eviction order from the Cook County Sheriff's office last week. Art student wins last ‘paint out’
Lucy Clary won Friday’s paint out at the Evanston Plein Art Festival. Nineteen artists painted scenes around the Noyes Cultural Center, 927 Noyes St. Clary, 19, raised in Chicago, is a summer intern for Evanston Made, the organization that sponsors the event. She is starting her second year at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. “I chose the scene with all the foliage and the quiet train tracks,” she said. The festival’s grand finale will run from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Rotary International, 1560 Sherman Ave. Sixty plein-air painters will display one work for judging and sell their art.
