Pritzker enacts 68 bills impacting drivers, immigrants, child victims, mobile homes
(The Center Square) – Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed 68 bills Friday that affect drivers, those who violate immigration laws, victims of child abuse, mobile homes and more. During the spring session that ended in May, the Illinois General Assembly approved more than 450 bills out of both chambers. Art student wins last ‘paint out’
Lucy Clary won Friday’s paint out at the Evanston Plein Art Festival. Nineteen artists painted scenes around the Noyes Cultural Center, 927 Noyes St. Clary, 19, raised in Chicago, is a summer intern for Evanston Made, the organization that sponsors the event. She is starting her second year at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. “I chose the scene with all the foliage and the quiet train tracks,” she said. The festival’s grand finale will run from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Rotary International, 1560 Sherman Ave. Sixty plein-air painters will display one work for judging and sell their art. The city’s Parks and Recreation Department plans to consider Ackerman, Mason and Cartwright parks for pickleball courts in the coming months. Parks and Recreation Director Audrey Thompson delivered this update to a full room at the parks and recreation meeting on Thursday night at the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center.

Chemical release from Will County plant prompts large emergency response
The release of a volatile chemical led to a large emergency response on Saturday at a plant in unincorporated Will County, authorities said. At around 11:38 a.m., the Channahon Fire Protection District was called to INEOS Styrenics for a hazardous material incident, the fire district said in a news release. Fire crews arrived to facility employees attempting to cool a large container of approximately 5,000 gallons of styrene. Styrene is a liquid used to create polystyrene, a solid plastic.

CHICAGO — A Berwyn man is accused of shooting and killing a 3-year-old during a road rage confrontation as he and his wife returned home from picking up a gun at a suburban firing range. The September 30, 2022, murder of Mateo Zastro shocked the city, but prosecutors only recently approved murder charges in the case.
