    Trump crashes Bedminster wedding: This week in Central Jersey history, July 22-28

    President Donald Trump made a surprise appearance at a wedding reception at his golf club in Bedminster, it was reported on Tuesday, July 23, 2019.

    At the reception on Saturday, July 20, 2019, Trump received chants of "USA! USA!" from the bride, groom and guests, according to CNN. The groom, P.J. Mongelli, had sent multiple invitations to Trump.

    Here's a look at events that happened in Central Jersey from five, 10, 25, 50 and 100 years ago this week.

    July 24: It was reported Jared Razzano, 36, of Manville, was sentenced on Friday, July 19, 2019, to seven years in state prison for a sword attack on a 40-year-old Manville man whose car blocked his driveway.

    July 25: South River declared a water emergency and put usage restrictions in place, just more than a week after residents told MyCentralJersey they had been experiencing discolored water in their homes.

    July 26: It was reported Southwest Airlines had announced that it would cease operations at Newark Liberty International Airport that fall, in the wake of international groundings of an aircraft with a history of malfunctions and crashes.

    July 26: It was reported actor Denzel Washington would be the inaugural recipient of Crossroads Theatre in New Brunswick's Ossie Davis & Ruby Dee Living Legends award

    July 24, 2014: It was reported Ashley Lasanta, a 23-year-old woman from Westfield with cerebral palsy, was among the first people to test Google Glass through Google's Glass Explorer Program.

    July 25-27: The Quick Chek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning was held at Solberg Airport in Readington. Musical performers included America, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and more.

    July 25, July 27: Alanis Morissette performed on Friday, July 25, 2014, at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, and on Sunday, July 27, 2014, at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank.

    July 28: More than 550 media members descended on the Chicago Hilton for the annual Big Ten Media Day, making the initiation of Rutgers and Maryland into their new home. After 19 months of buildup, both schools officially joined the Big Ten on Tuesday, July 1, 2014.

    1999

    July 22, 1999: The FBI announced it would release 28,500 pages of documents related to the 1932 kidnapping of Charles Lindbergh's infant son from LIndbergh's East Amwell home, as well as documents relating to the arrest, trial and execution of Bruno Richard Hauptmann.

    July 23 An armed robber held up banks in Edison and Clark in less than a half-hour. The FBI believed he was also responsible for two other bank robberies earlier that month in the Colonia section of Woodbridge and another at the same Edison bank.

    July 24: Still covered in blood from its birth, an infant was found alive and crying inside a knotted plastic bag along the curb of Seaman Street in New Brunswick.

    July 26: Paul Timmendequas, who admitted molesting two girls, would serve his sentence at the state prison for sex offenders, Superior Court Judge Barnett Hoffman ruled. Timmendequas is the brother of Jesse Timmendequas, who raped and murdered 7-year-old Megan Kanka of Hamilton.

    July 26: The Sayreville Little League team beat South Wall, 2-1.

    July 28: Bob Dylan and Paul Simon performed at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel.

    July 22, 1974: South Brunswick was told the state would proceed with acquisition of Pigeon Swamp for the creation of a state park in six months.

    July 24: The Democratic-controlled Senate rejected Gov. Brendan Byrne's income tax bill only to hear Byrne emphasize it was now the Senate's burden to develop the "best second best" alternative to his defeated school funding program.

    July 26: Professional boxing returned to Asbury Park after a 21-year lapse, with Art Kettles winning a 10-round match over Puerto Rico's Oresto LeBron in the feature welterweight bout at Convention Hall in Asbury Park.

    July 27: It was reported the musical, "El Grande de Coca-Cola" would begin a two-week run at the geodesic Theatre in the Dome in Lambertville on Tuesday, July 30, 1974.

    July 28: Singer Melanie performed at the Garden State Arts Center in Holmdel, her first appearance at the center.

    1924

    July 22, 1924: Damage estimated at $5,000 was caused by a fire which broke out in the dry goods store of Sam Schlecter in South Plainfield. The origin of the fire was unknown.

    July 23-24: The movie, "April Showers," starring Ruth Clifford, Kenneth Harlan and Colleen Moore, was shown at Reade's Strand Theatre in Perth Amboy.

    July 26: It was reported that during the then-present baby chick season, 42,750 chicks had been received at the Plainfield post office from incoming mails alone.

    July 26: Athletes representing the Plainfield Young Men's Christian Association in a track and field meet held in Bayonne came in second in scoring points for the State Association championships.
