Stephens II announced on July 25 that the Essex County Prosecutor's Office had been assigned to investigate the police officer-involved shooting that took place in Rahway around 8:30 on the evening of July 24, injuring a Perth Amboy detective. The Jamesburg Police Department is holding its annual National Night Out from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This family-friendly event features music from DJ Tyler and fun giveaways. Hot dogs, Italian ice, popcorn and more will be served. Chase, the Jamesburg PD's mascot dog, will also be on hand for a meet-and-greet. National Night Out began in 1984 as a way to strengthen the bonds between the community and the police in their unified fight against crime and to improve the relations between officers and the residents living in the towns they serve. Union Extends Summer Concert Series
UNION, NJ - A surprise announcement was made before the start of Thursday night's Union Summer Concert Series performance: The township will be hosting two additional shows as part of the series. The first will be a performance by The Benjamins on Thursday, Aug. 8. The Benjamins, established in 1999, are a live music act known for their blend of classic and modern styles of rock, punk, alternative, and pop music. The band has also appeared on TV and radio and performed at major venues including Madison Square Garden and the Prudential Center. They have also opened for acts including The Goo Goo Dolls and Cheap Trick.
