RAHWAY, N.J. – A police detective was shot Wednesday night in Rahway, New Jersey.The Perth Amboy Police detective was serving a warrant in the area of Broad Street and Maple Avenue around 8:30 p.m. when shots were fired, according to the department's chief.Police said the detective was struck multiple times in the leg. Eric Bernstein, President of Berkshire Furniture, passed away after battling cancer. He was 55 years old. Bernstein’s company, based in Springfield, NJ, is one of New Jersey’s oldest family-owned furniture stores. Originally named Bernstein Furniture, Eric’s great-grandfather Solomon Bernstein opened his first store in 1903. Eric Bernstein joined his father, Lawrence, at Berkshire Furniture in 1991.
