KYTC road report for July 28-August 3, 2024
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) anticipates some work zone construction and maintenance activities that could impact traffic during the week of July 28 through August 3. Officials report these areas within our coverage area are impacted:
Showers and storms this weekend, warming up next week
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Saturday should also remain mostly dry, however, there is still a slight chance for some spotty showers or storms in the afternoon. Most of the activity looks to stay to our west over Illinois. Highs will reach the upper 80s. Our best chance for showers and storms arrives on Sunday. An area of low-pressure building over the northern plains will lift moisture northward over the Tri-State. The moisture will materialize in the form of showers and thunderstorms, on-and-off through the day. Some of the storms on Sunday may be strong but the severe weather threat remains low. The main hazards will be heavy rain, lightning, and some gusty winds. Storms will be slow moving, which may prompt some localized areas of flash flooding. Showers and storms will gradually taper off after sunset. Highs on Sunday will remain cooler, only reaching the low to mid 80s.

KY Authorities Have Discovered Card Skimmers in Retail, Grocery Stores
I don't classify myself as a paranoid person, but I've got to be honest with you, when I first learned of the existence of card skimmers, my paranoia amped up a bit. With progress comes convenience but also nefariousness. It seems every form of new technology developed to make our lives easier can also be manipulated to make our lives, in some cases, a nightmare. And because of identity theft, even more new technology must be created--and rather quickly, too--to counteract the behavior of bad actors.

Whooping Cough Cases on the Rise in Kentucky — the Highest Infection Rate in Eight Years
When I was a child, I was annually plagued with laryngotracheobronchitis. But since nobody has time to say that word, we'll use the more common term "croup." You could set your watch by it. In my pre-school days, I spent a good deal of time each year in what's known as a "croup tent." There I was, laying in bed, surrounded on four sides by kitchen chairs and covered with a blanket. My only company inside the makeshift enclosure was a humidifier and Vick's Salve. And that "croup cough" was a beast. It hurt; it sounded like a dog barking; and it was alarming to anyone who could hear it but couldn't see me.
