Edison Park Apartment Complex Approved Despite Pushback From Neighbors
EDISON PARK — An 82-unit apartment development is coming to Edison Park despite some pushback from neighbors. The City Council on Wednesday approved a request to rezone the property at 6750 N. Northwest Highway, the former M.J. Suerth Funeral Home. The rezoning allows developer Valdir Barion to construct two, four-story buildings, each with 41 apartments, 41 parking spaces and a courtyard.

HERMOSA — Northwest Siders are pushing for a new ordinance that would protect housing in the rapidly gentrifying area, hoping to keep more longtime families in their homes. The Northwest Preservation Ordinance, introduced to the City Council Wednesday, proposes a permanent law to better protect two-, three- and four-flats in parts of Hermosa, Logan Square, Avondale, West Town and Humboldt Park. Despite the disappointment of the canceled rave event on the CTA last month, there’s still a chance to experience live DJ sets during your commute into the city. The CTA has just announced the return of AESOP for another season, promising to bring captivating live DJ sets to the 95th/Dan Ryan Red Line station. This year’s programming schedule will feature three days of real-time performances by various talented local disc jockey (DJ) artists, running through November 1st. EDISON PARK — The grocery store and cafe filling the closed Happy Foods in Edison Park could open before the end of the year, the owner said. EP Market is taking over the space at 6783 N. Northwest Highway, which has sat empty for almost two years. The family-owned market will include a cafe, bakery and taqueria, co-owner Eduardo Haro said.
