According to the Belchertown Police Department, officers were called at around 8:44 a.m. Friday for a report of a disturbance on Poole Road. The woman who called said that her husband was becoming combative and destroying property inside the home.

Officers arrived within 7 minutes of the call and found the woman outside the home, unharmed. The man barricaded himself inside while officers staged away from the residence. Crisis negotiators from the Massachusetts State Police were called and helped work with the individual to voluntarily come out of the house peacefully.

He was taken to the hospital by Belchertown firefighters for evaluation. Belchertown Police Chief Kevin Pacunas said that the incident was isolated to the residence and there was no threat to the public.
