Johnna Davis: Not in country’s best interest to feed into obsession with weapons of mass destruction
The Belknap County Democratic Committee stands with the Belknap County Republicans in denouncing the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump, which took the life of firefighter Corey Comperatore, and the innocent victims who were in harm's way. It is indeed a sad day when we no longer feel safe going to events that are the cornerstone of our American freedom; one should never feel they are risking their lives going to a political rally or protest, or school, concert, or grocery store, for that matter. It seems that the right to peacefully assemble has been forever tainted by the proliferation and the glamorization of AR-15-style rifles. In 2020, at an event right in Laconia, several (young) self-appointed vigilantes donning shiny semi-automatic weapons lined our streets, one even perched on a roof downtown. To say it was unsafe is an understatement. Untrained boys with guns. What could possibly go wrong?
