BELMONT COUNTY, OHIO (WTRF) – The 4th of July is right around the corner and folks around the Buckeye State are looking to put on some small scale fireworks displays of their own.

However, there are a number of things you need to keep in mine to insure your celebration is within the law.

This year, unless prohibited by local law, fireworks can be discharged on Wednesday July 3rd though Sunday the 7th. Only Consumer fireworks, also known as Class C fireworks, that are purchased from a licensed firework distributor are allowed.

Jessica Stephens is a supervisor from Ohio Fireworks in Bellaire. She says there are three classifications of fireworks throughout the State.

“Everything we have is class C. So anything Class A or Class B is not allowed. Class A would be like dynamite and those types of explosives. Class B is your big display fireworks and Class C is everything that we carry.”

No one is allowed to discharge or use consumer fireworks in the State of West Virginia on public or private property without the permission of the owner.
