DSU opens volleyball home stand with two matches; plays Siouxland Invitational next weekend
MADISON, S.D. (Aug. 22, 2024)—The Dakota State University Trojan volleyball team (2-2 overall record, receiving votes—RV—in the 2024 NAIA Women's Volleyball Coaches' Preseason Poll) prepares for their home opener at DSU Fieldhouse. The Trojans host a pair of Great Plains Athletic Conference foes, hosting rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) (1-3 overall record, RV in national poll) Saturday afternoon. The junior varsity match is set for 1 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 3 p.m.

Two Arrested In Nebraska From Utah Gang Shooting: KSUB News Summary
Two Sudanese gang members are in custody in Nebraska in connection with the shooting death of a 17-year-old Judge Memorial Catholic High School student athlete last month. Authorities say the victim was an innocent bystander. The shots that were fired in a West Valley parking lot were not meant for Nuer Deng who was a member of the high school basketball team. He was seated in the back seat of a car on July 13th when he was hit by gunfire. He was taken to a local hospital and later died. Mare Biel of Arizona and 17-year-old Bevan Kuajian of West Valley City, were charged today in 3rd District Court in Douglas County with murder, a first-degree felony and other charges. Kuajian was 16 at the time of the shooting. Both teens fled to Omaha after the crime.

State jobless rate holds steady at one of the lowest rates in the nation
PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — South Dakota’s unemployment rate is holding rock steady at two-percent, while the nation’s jobless rate has climbed from 3 1/2-percent a year ago to 4.3-percent at the end of July. The state’s two largest cities are also showing low rates that haven’t moved in the past year. Rapid City comes in at two-percent, and Sioux Falls is at 1.8-percent. Nationally, a quarter of a million more people hit the unemployment lines in July as compared to June.
