Woman Charged With Stealing State Funds For Foster Kids To Make First Court Appearance Thursday
PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Iowa woman accused of stealing over one-point-eight million dollars intended for the care of foster children in South Dakota is scheduled to appear in court Thursday in Pierre to address those charges. South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says 68-year-old Lonna Carroll has been indicted on two counts of Aggravated Grand Theft. Carroll is a former Department of Social Services employee who retired to Iowa last year. The South Dakota Legislatures’ Government Operations and Audit Committee is making a formal request to review the situation. CR Council purchases undeveloped downtown site for temporary parking, redevelopment
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Cedar Rapids City Council approved the purchase of a valuable piece of downtown real estate to ease parking problems during flood wall construction. The two lots at the corner of 1st Street and 3rd Avenue SE have long been talked about for development of a new building, but it has remained untouched for years. The city approved purchasing the land during the July 9 meeting for $1.025 million. That's well below the original price of $2.5 million listed by GLD Commercial in 2022.
Falcon Baseball seniors brought team from bottom to state in their careers
The Aplington-Parkersburg baseball team finished its season Tuesday in its first-ever state tournament appearance. Coach Brett Kleespies says the senior class of five is a key reason for the success, having played a major role on the team throughout their careers. Jones County Teacher Arrested for Sending Messages to Student
A middle school gym teacher in Jones County has been charged with sexual exploitation of a minor for conversations he had with a 15-year-old student ten years ago. CBS2 reports that court records show now 50-year-old Wayne Lasack, a gym teacher in the Anamosa Community School District, reached out to a teenager on Facebook in 2014. The message stated that he wanted to see a "naughty picture" of her. She stated that she was not interested and the conversation ended. CBS2 reports that the messages were sent anonymously to the Anamosa Community School District in 2018 and were reported to police.
