Kids’ Day At Kinnick Set For Aug. 10
IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa football team will host its annual “Kids’ Day at Kinnick,” presented by the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, on Saturday, Aug. 10. Marion gears up for National Night Out with police and community events
MARION, Iowa - National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. This year, National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 6. CR Council purchases undeveloped downtown site for temporary parking, redevelopment
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Cedar Rapids City Council approved the purchase of a valuable piece of downtown real estate to ease parking problems during flood wall construction. The two lots at the corner of 1st Street and 3rd Avenue SE have long been talked about for development of a new building, but it has remained untouched for years. The city approved purchasing the land during the July 9 meeting for $1.025 million. That's well below the original price of $2.5 million listed by GLD Commercial in 2022.
Falcon Baseball seniors brought team from bottom to state in their careers
The Aplington-Parkersburg baseball team finished its season Tuesday in its first-ever state tournament appearance. Coach Brett Kleespies says the senior class of five is a key reason for the success, having played a major role on the team throughout their careers. Since their eighth grade season, the group has helped the team improve their record every year after winning just three games in 2020.

25 of the 2024 'Herky on Parade' statues now have their very own bobbleheads!. Earlier this year, 100 new, unique Herky statues were unveiled and placed around the Iowa City area as part of the 3rd generation of 'Herky on Parade.' According to the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame website, it was the "largest public art project Iowa has ever produced," and all 100 of the statues were painted by local or regional artists.
