A woman critically injured and a man killed in a crash while traveling to Yosemite National Park over the weekend were high school sweethearts and newlyweds from Belle Plaine, according to an online fundraising campaign .

A GoFundMe page identifies the couple involved in the tragic crash as Ally and Marcus Giesen and says their families have traveled from Minnesota to California to support Ally, who remains hospitalized with a skull fracture, brain bleed and other serious injuries.

"Due to the overwhelming factors that complicate this heartbreaking situation, and anticipating the financial strain that both Ally and the families will face due to the loss of income, time off work, travel, and the extraordinary challenge due to the logistics of being so far from home, collecting donations by way of GoFundMe seems the most practical and appropriate way to help support these humble and amazing souls," a statement, signed the Fink and Giesen families, reads.

According to the GoFundMe campaign, the couple were living in Los Angeles and "building their dream life together" when the single-vehicle crash occurred as they were on their way to a Yosemite National Park getaway Saturday.

The couple's dog, Sky, was also killed in the crash.

A Caringbridge post from Ally's mother on Wednesday shares that Ally remains hospitalized but is improving each day.

"Ally is doing her best to sleep and heal," the post reads. "We appreciate all of the prayers and love."

The GoFundMe seeks to raise $50,000.

"By relieving them of part of the challenge that lies ahead, the focus can be on Ally's well-being and healing," the page reads.
