Charleston City Council approves expansion of urban hunting to include bears, coyotes
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — Charleston City Council has voted to expand options for urban hunting to include bears and coyotes. The ordinance allows for bears to be hunted with crossbows while coyotes may be hunted with .22 caliber rifles. Council members also expanded times for hunting coyotes to include nighttime hours on private property.
New apartment complex breaks ground in Putnam County
PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Putnam County welcomed a new apartment complex with a groundbreaking on Wednesday. 304 at Valley Pointe is now officially under construction with AB contracting. Brian Wadsworth, the Chief Operating Officer, said West Virginia is a home base for the company and the city of Hurricane has been a great partner.
Charleston set to host 2024 West Virginia Book Festival
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — The capital city is set to host an annual festival for bookworms this fall, featuring several bestselling authors. The 2024 West Virginia Book Festival has been scheduled for Oct. 19 at the Charleston Coliseum, offering workshops, presentations, vendors and children’s programs, according to a news release from organizers.
New law to prevent, cure Parkinson’s disease
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WTAP) — A new law establishes a mission for the federal government to cure and prevent Parkinson’s disease. On Monday, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) spent the day in Charleston, W.Va., to celebrate the National Plan to End Parkinson’s Act becoming law. The law took effect on July 2, after Senators Capito and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) reintroduced the legislation in March 2023.

26 dogs rescued from deplorable conditions at Ohio home
HUBBARD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (KDKA) -- More than two dozen dogs were rescued from deplorable conditions at a home in Ohio, an animal shelter said.The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County said the 26 dogs and their elderly owner were found living in "deplorable conditions."
