    Man, 72, and woman, 71, killed in crash at U.S. 441 South and SE 95th Street in Belleview

    BELLEVIEW — Two people were killed and a third person injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday. Here's what we know:

    Where did the crash happen? At U.S. 441 South and Southeast 95th Street by Belleview Santos Elementary School.

    Which agency is investigating the crash? Florida Highway Patrol.

    What happened? Troopers on scene said a Chevy Cobalt was traveling north on U.S. 441 and the driver entered into the turn lane to make a left onto 95th Street.

    A Toyota Tacoma was traveling south on U.S. 441. Authorities said the vehicles collided at the intersection.

    Upon impact, FHP officials said, the Toyota went off the roadway and overturned on its roof next to a concrete utility pole. The Chevy also went off the roadway and stopped on the west grassy shoulder close to a chain-link fence that separates the shoulder from the school.

    Which other agencies responded to the scene? Marion County Fire Rescue spokesman James Lucas said his agency was assigned the call at 5:03 p.m. and arrived at 5:08 p.m. At the scene, Lucas said, although the pickup driver was alert and oriented, he was in serious condition and unable to get out of the vehicle.

    The occupants of the second vehicle were not alert and were in serious condition, Lucas said. The victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

    Who died? Troopers said a man and woman from the Chevy and a man from the Toyota were taken to HCA Florida Ocala. The man and woman from the Chevy died. The man from the Toyota was listed in stable condition, officials said. Troopers said they're trying to determine who had the green light.

    Any information about the occupants from both vehicles? FHP officials said the Chevy driver was a 72-year-old-man from Ocala. Troopers said the Chevy passenger, a 71-year-old woman, also was from Ocala. Investigators said the man and woman knew each other.

    The driver of the Toyota was identified as a 20-year-old man from Fort McCoy.
