Belleville man who was a passenger in a weekend car crash dies at St. Louis hospital

A 20-year-old Belleville man died after a car struck another vehicle , veered off of the road and hit a pole in Cahokia Heights on Saturday night, according to the St. Louis Medical Examiner’s Office.

Ashton Jackson, 20, was pronounced deceased Sunday at 7:19 p.m. at St. Louis University Hospital, said Tara Rick, a spokeswoman for the St. Louis Medical Examiner’s Office .

Jackson was a passenger in the Honda Accord that was being driven by Teagan D. Kelley, 21, of the 1200 block of Greenfield Place, O’Fallon, when it crashed.

Kelley was pronounced dead Saturday night in the emergency room of Touchette Regional Hospital, said St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.

Cahokia Heights Police were dispatched to Illinois Route 15 and Pocket Road after receiving a call about the accident at 7:36 p.m., Cahokia Heights Detective DeMarius Thomas said.

Kelley was traveling west on Illinois 15 when his car struck an SUV with a 63-year old driver inside. The SUV driver did not seek medical treatment, Thomas said.

The Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating, Thomas said.
