Driver dies after having medical emergency, crashing car into tree off of I-170
BEL-RIDGE, Mo. — A St. Louis man died Sunday morning after having a medical emergency behind the wheel and crashing his car into a tree off of Interstate 170 in Bel-Ridge. According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 30-year-old Steven Scott Jr. was driving northbound at just before noon Sunday on I-170, north of St. Charles Rock Road, when he experienced a medical emergency. His car traveled off the right side of the road and down the embankment before striking a large tree and landing on its side.
Solar-powered cars race through Edwardsville
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (First Alert 4) - Solar-powered cars traveled through the St. Louis Metro Sunday as part of a national annual racing challenge. The solar-powered vehicles have been traveling across the country as part of the 2024 American Solar Challenge. They started in Nashville, Tennessee, and stopped Sunday morning in Edwardsville on their way to Casper, Wyoming.
Man accused of murdering girlfriend in Dutchtown
In Dutchtown, a 40-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend on Friday, as reported by First Alert 4 from St. Louis, MO. Prosecutors in St. Louis have pressed charges against Derrick A. Smith, a resident of the city, for first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm. The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was 38 years old at the time of their death.

Illinois deputy showed shooting, killing Springfield woman in newly released body camera footage
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Body camera footage detailing the moments before and after an Illinois sheriff's deputy recently shot and killed a Springfield woman was released Monday. The footage shows now-former Deputy Sean Grayson, 30 and white, pulling his gun on Sonya Massey, 36 and Black, in her Springfield, Illinois, home after deputies responded to her 911 call about a possible prowler on July 6. Grayson has since been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and official misconduct in the shooting and is in custody without bond.
Missouri Botanical Garden offering free tours for disability community
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The Missouri Botanical Garden will offer free access tours and classes designed for the disability community. Throughout the summer and fall, they will be offering tours with both American Sign Language and audio description interpretation. The Garden has been teaming up with the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Missouri Chapter to provide specialized tours to those with memory loss and their families.

(SPRINGFIELD) Governor J.B. Pritzker signed 68 more bills into law this past Friday. One of the four measures that take effect January 1st, 2025, is House Bill 5457 prevents professional license denial or disciplinary action against someone based solely on immigration status or an immigration violation. House Bill 5465 allows human trafficking victims, who were children at the time of the crime, to have their juvenile records expunged or sealed of any criminal acts they were forced to take part in while being abused. House Bill 5370 expands the state’s “Move Over Law” requiring drivers to reduce their speed in & around emergency crash scenes. House Bill 5238 requires newly built manufactured homes to have weather radios installed, plus also promotes regular maintenance of safety devices in mobile home communities.
